Duty Holder & Designated Person

The Duty Holder is responsible for Safe and Efficient operations at the port. They are responsible for ensuring that the port remains in compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code.

The port has appointed a Designated Person (DP) to provide independent assurance directly to the duty holder that the Marine Safety Management System (MSMS), for which the duty holder is responsible, is working effectively. Their main responsibility is to determine, through assessment and audit, the effectiveness of the MSMS in ensuring compliance with the Code.

At Bristol Port the Designated Person is Stephen Birt (Marine Director & Haven Master).
